BMW Motorcycles. Originally an aircraft engine manufacturer at the turn of the last century and through World War I, BMW introduced the first motorcycle under its name, the R32, in 1923. BMW Motorrad, a subsidiary of BMW, manufactures the motorcycles. Although BMW motorcycles have been long associated with their original engine configuration, the flat-twin or boxer engine, the company today manufactures a full line of motorcycles in a variety of engine and riding configurations. There are currently four lines of BMW motorcycles: F & G series singles, F series twins, R series and K series. The series differ primarily in the class of engine that each uses.
