Buell Motorcycles. Founded by Erik Buell. Worked as a trainee mechanic, then became a dealership service manager. 
In 1978, Buell recorded the fastest newcomer qualifying time for the Daytona 200 race. Later, he attained his engineering degree. Buell worked for Harley-Davidson as a chassis engineer and left in 1982 to manufacture his own race bike. 

Harley-Davidson supplied the engines. By 1994, Harley-Davidson owned 49% of the business, and went on to purchase another 49% of the company in 4 years. The Buell Motorcycle Company became a subsidiary of Harley-Davidson, Inc. Since 1993, with the full support and backing of Harley, Buell has introduced a series of mould-breaking, provocative sport and standard motorcycles for the street. The 2004 model year range represents further refinement of the already proven and acclaimed Buell The current XB platform now consists of two families; the Firebolt XB12R and XB9R and the Lightning XB12S and XB9S.models
